Database actions - PAD

POWER AUTOMATE DESKTOP - DATABASE Pre-Requisites Power Automate Desktop Access to database  Under the database action, we have only three sub actions, namely: Open SQL connection Execute SQL statement  Close SQL connection Open SQL Connection The first step is to connect to the database. So, we will use the Open SQL connection action and provide a connection string to establish the connection (the connection string in the video is a sample). When the connection is successful, the connection details is stored in a variable during execution. Execute SQL statement This action can be used to execute SQL queries. Here, I am using select query and the result is stored in a variable of type datatable. Close SQL connection It is a best practice to always close the database connection once the required queries are executed. YAY! BONUS!😮 How to execute a stored procedure using database action? Stored Procedure without arguments Stored Procedure with arguments (Comma separated in...

Microsoft Dataverse & Power Automate - Part 3

POWER AUTOMATE & MICROSOFT DATAVERSE - 3 PRE-REQUISITES Login to  Power Automate Create a manually triggered flow In this post, I will be using the data that is available in the Accounts table ADD NEW DATA ROWS INTO A DATAVERSE TABLE Select the action "Add a new row" under Microsoft Dataverse, select a table and then enter the data to be added into the table. After running the flow, check the table to see the data has being entered. DELETE A ROW FROM A DATAVERSE TABLE To delete a value from a table, we need to know the GUID/Row ID. That can be fetched from the table or use list rows in cloud flow. Now, use the "Delete a row" action, select the table and pass the GUID. Run the flow and check if the data is deleted. GET A ROW BY ID FROM DATAVERSE TABLE If you know the GUID of a row from a table in dataverse, we can use it to fetch many details related to that row. Test: UPDATE A ROW IN DATAVERSE TABLE If you know the GUID of a row from a table in dataverse, we can...

Microsoft Dataverse & Power Automate - Part 2

POWER AUTOMATE & MICROSOFT DATAVERSE - 2 PRE-REQUISITES Login to Power Automate Create a manually triggered flow In this post, I will be using the data that is available in the Accounts table LIST ROWS WITH FILTER QUERY From the Accounts table, fetch the Logical name of the column to be filtered. Use the logical name in Cloud Flow while listing the rows and test it. (There is only 1 entry for the City Kochi) The other operators that can be used in filter: LIST ROWS WITH SORT Get the logical name of the column to be sorted. Use desc  for descending order and asc  for ascending order. Sorted by State and Tested: LIST ROWS WITH ROW COUNT Number of rows to be fetched from dataverse can be mentioned. However, 5000 is the default number of rows that can be fetched. It can be increased to a maximum of 1,00,000 rows under Settings > Pagination > Increase Threshold. Thank you for visiting! Please leave a comment for queries. Next >> Add, Delete and Update Table

Microsoft Dataverse & Power Automate - Part 1

POWER AUTOMATE & MICROSOFT DATAVERSE - 1 PRE-REQUISITES Login to Power Automate Create a manually triggered flow In this post, I will be using the data that is available in the Accounts table. In Cloud flow, we can use the dataverse connector and perform multiple actions as required. LIST ROWS IN DATAVERSE Use List rows action to list rows/records from a selected table. Use Apply To Each control to go through each row in the table. Data in the Dataverse table Accounts is shown. In Cloud flow, Use List Rows and Apply to each to get data from dataverse and loop through each row. Test Time: LIST ROWS WITH SELECTED COLUMNS From dataverse table, fetch the selected columns only. Multiple column names can be comma separated. Fetch the logical name of the columns (to be selected) from the Dataverse table. (In my observation, fetching only required rows, reduces the execution time) Enter the logical name of the column in Advanced Options of the List rows action. Test Time: Next: List Rows ...

Switch Control In Power Automate Flow

SWITCH CONTROL IN CLOUD FLOW PRE-REQUISITE Login to  Power Automate Create a manually triggered flow BUILDING A FLOW TO USE SWITCH STEP 1: Expand the action "Manually trigger a flow" and add an input of the type "Number". This prompts for an input value when the flow is triggered. STEP 2: Search and select "Switch" control. You notice that two branches are added automatically. STEP 3: In the Switch action, select the "Number" variable from the Dynamic content that we created in the Step 1. STEP 4:  We can give one or more cases and a matching criteria for each case. In this case, I am giving Prime numbers between 0-9 and adding a compose action to say its prime. For default case, I am putting a Compose action that says its Non-prime. TESTING TIME Thanks for visiting.😊 Please leave a comment if you would like me to cover a particular topic.

Rounding up fractions - Power Automate

ROUNDING UP IN CLOUD FLOW Use the expression 'formatNumber()' with Compose action, to round up the numbers. Example 1 : 10.3633 rounded off to 2 decimal places gives 10.36. Example 2 : 10.3633 rounded off to 1 decimal places gives 10.4 Example 3 : 10.3635 rounded off to 2 decimal places gives 10.364. That's all folks. Leave a comment in case you have questions.

length ( ) - Cloud Flow

Finding length of string/array - Power Automate PRE-REQUISITE Login to  Power Automate Create a manually triggered instant flow An idea on  Array Variables  and  String Variables For this post, I will be using the String Team Kakashi and the Array ["Naruto","Sakura","Sasuke","Kakashi"] BUILDING FLOW - Length expression in Cloud Flow STEP 1: Create a string variable and assign a value. STEP 2:  Create an array variable and assign a value. STEP 3: Get the length of string using expression tab. length(variables('TextVar') STEP 4:  Get the length of array using expression tab. length(variables('ArrayVar')) QUICK NOTE: You can rename the actions in your flow, that helps better to understand it. TEST FLOW Length of string is 12 [Including the Space] Length of array is 4. That's all peeps!👋 Please leave a comment for queries!

Text Functions In Cloud Flow

TEXT FUNCTIONS PRE-REQUISITE Login to  Power Automate Create a manually triggered instant cloud flow BUILD A FLOW TO USE TEXT FUNCTIONS Step 1: First, I will create a String variable called "varString" and give it a text value.  Step 2: Search "Text Functions" and select "Find Text Position". We can use this to find the position of a character or string within another string. From dynamic content, select the variable we created in previous step and provide a text to search. Step 3: Search "Text Functions" and select "Substring". This can be used to extract a substring from another string. From dynamic content, select the string variable that was created before, give a position from where the string has to be extracted and you may or may not give the length of the text that has to be extracted. TEST Here's the result of using "Find text position" and "Substring" Text Functions. Please leave a comment if you have...

Do Until Control in a Cloud Flow

How to use "Do Until" in a flow? PRE - REQUISITE Login to  Power Automate Create a manually triggered cloud flow DO UNTIL is a looping technique where a block of code/actions can be repeated until a condition is met and stopped once the condition is no longer met. For this flow, I will be using a variable with type integer. Here's a link, if you would like to review " Integer Variable " BUILDING THE FLOW - DO UNTIL IN POWER AUTOMATE STEP 1 : Create an integer variable and set default value as 0. STEP 2: Add Do until, select the variable, select "is greater than" and give the value 10. We are looping through the actions within this block until the condition "value of the variable is greater than 10" is met. Once the value touches 11 [as 11>10] , the loop is exited. [Note: The block of actions is executed first, then the condition is checked] STEP 3:  Now we add the block of action that has to be repeated. In this case, I will increment the...
